Board Member Spotlight: From a Backyard BBQ to the Boardroom: How Chairman Brad is Shaping the Future of SFF

Every great mission has a starting point. For the SEAL Future Foundation (SFF), one of those pivotal moments didn’t take place in a boardroom or a military base, but at a casual backyard barbecue in Greenwich, Connecticut, in the very early days of the organization.

Among the attendees that evening was Brad. He had arrived simply to drop off a cooler of drinks and some food at a friend’s house, where SFF Founder Jonny Wilson had brought a dozen Navy SEALs down from Virginia Beach to meet with about 25 local civilians.

What started as a relaxed afternoon of food and conversation quickly evolved into something much larger. As the civilian attendees listened to the operators, a stark reality became clear: the transition out of the military and into the civilian world was a massive, complex hurdle. The team guys didn’t just need well-wishes—they needed a dedicated network, mentorship, and resources to help them navigate higher education, scholarships, and new corporate careers.

That single evening solidified the vision for SFF, and for Brad, it sparked a lifelong commitment to the cause.

A Commitment Beyond the Backyard

“Having reached a place in life where I was comfortable with my own career and family, I was looking for a way to give back to others,” Brad recalls. “I welcomed the opportunity to help Jonny and this new organization he was creating.”

Brad’s involvement quickly grew from supporting social gatherings to driving foundational initiatives. Over the years, he went from throwing one of the organization’s very first fundraising shooting events to personally mentoring individual SEALs as they navigated the civilian job market. His dedication led him to join the Board of Directors, and today, he serves as the Chairman of the Board.

For Brad, the motivation behind his years of service comes down to a fundamental sense of duty:

“I am honored to do the work because I believe we civilians are the beneficiaries of the freedom our military provides us. We have an obligation to help when our warriors finish serving our country and move on to their next phase in life.”

The Vision: Scaling an Effective Model

Under Brad’s leadership, SFF has developed a highly effective, specialized transition program that has changed the trajectories of hundreds of veterans’ lives. Yet, looking ahead, his focus remains entirely on how the foundation can do more.

“I believe that we have created a very effective program to help SEALs transition back into the civilian world after their military service ends,” Brad says. “My only regret at the moment is that we don’t have the resources to help all the special forces warriors and regular military members through their transitions.”

Brad’s vision for the future of SFF is rooted in growth and awareness. The transition framework built by SFF works, and the goal now is to secure the resources necessary to scale that success.

“I think if more people knew how successful our approach is, we would be able to raise more money to meet the needs of more SEALs in transition back to civilian life,” he notes. “I hope that we can continue to grow our resources and programs so we can help as many guys in the special forces community as possible.”

From a backyard BBQ to leading the organization as Chairman, Brad’s journey is a testament to the power of community, mentorship, and a shared mission.
