Board Member Spotlight: Steve Moreno’s Dedication to the SEAL Future Foundation

Steve Moreno’s relationship with the SEAL Future Foundation (SFF) began in 2015 at the Coronado Golf Outing. There, he first heard Johnny, one of SFF’s founders, discuss the challenges SEALs face when transitioning to civilian life—and the need for a better support system. That conversation sparked a journey of service and leadership that continues to this day.

Inspired by Johnny’s vision, Steve saw an opportunity within his own organization, Capital Group. Despite its founder’s deep ties to veterans, the company lacked a formal veterans program. With guidance from Johnny and Paul P., Steve launched a program in 2016, partnering with SFF to place transitioning SEALs at various Capital Group locations. This initiative not only supported veterans but also highlighted the value of SEALs in civilian roles.

Steve’s connection to SFF deepened in 2019 when he joined the board. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping SFF’s future and advancing its mission.

Steve’s Vision for SFF
For Steve, the future of SFF is about growth, impact, and sustainability:

  • Sustainable Funding: Ensuring the organization is fully funded year after year so every SEAL seeking support receives it.
  • Strategic Partnerships with NSF: Building a collaborative relationship with the Navy SEAL Foundation, leveraging each organization’s strengths to maximize resources and impact.
  • A Blueprint for Veteran Support: Creating a nonprofit model that not only assists SEALs but also serves as a guide for supporting veterans across all branches of service.

Why SFF Matters
Steve’s passion for SFF stems from his deep respect for the SEAL community. “Every team guy I’ve met is an incredible person. They’ve faced the toughest challenges, putting their mind, body, and spirit on the line, and they do it with humility.”

The challenges SEALs face don’t end after service. Operator Syndrome and mental health issues, including the heartbreaking reality of veteran suicides, make SFF’s mission all the more urgent. For Steve, supporting SFF is a way to give back. “At 18, I wasn’t ready to serve. Now, 30 years later, with experience and perspective, this is how I serve.”

Building the Future Together
Steve Moreno’s leadership exemplifies the heart of SFF’s mission: helping SEALs navigate their transition and build meaningful futures. With his guidance and the dedication of our team, SFF is not only supporting SEALs today but also creating a model to serve future generations of veterans.

We are honored to have Steve as part of the SFF family. Together, we’re changing lives and paving the way for a brighter future.
